Google $15 billion India investment has officially entered its construction phase in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with the groundbreaking of its landmark AI hub. The project marks Google’s biggest investment in India’s digital future so far and signals a major step in building advanced AI infrastructure in the country.

The ceremony took place at Tarluvada, Andhra Pradesh. It was attended by key leaders including Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT, Government of India, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Shri Nara Lokesh, Hon’ble Minister for IT, Electronics and Communications, RTG and HRD, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Senior leaders from Google, Adani Group, and Bharti Enterprises also joined the event, including Bikash Koley from Google Cloud, Karan Adani, Jeet Adani, and Rakesh Mittal.

Importantly, the project is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel. Together, they are building the infrastructure that will support Google’s large-scale AI systems in India.

Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said the AI hub reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global technology leader. He also highlighted the importance of upcoming subsea cable connections in Visakhapatnam for strengthening national digital infrastructure.

Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu said Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a major investment destination. He added that the AI hub will create new opportunities for young people and support innovation across startups and enterprises.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said the project marks an important step toward India’s AI future. He emphasized that it will open new economic opportunities and strengthen digital growth across the country.

From the industry side, Jeet Adani said that India’s AI growth depends on strong infrastructure, especially energy and data systems. Gopal Vittal of Bharti Airtel added that the hub will support sustainable and large-scale AI development through advanced connectivity and green energy use.

The AI hub is part of Google’s broader $15 billion India investment planned between 2026 and 2030. It includes India’s first gigawatt-scale AI hub with three data center campuses. It also includes a major fiber-optic expansion and clean energy integration to support sustainable operations.

Furthermore, the project is linked to India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. It aims to support faster AI adoption, research, and digital services across sectors.

Beyond infrastructure, Google is also launching community programs in Visakhapatnam. These include watershed management for water security, digital training for fishing communities, AI learning labs for students, women-led entrepreneurship support, and workforce skill development programs. Over 10,000 women entrepreneurs and more than 1,000 local workers are expected to benefit.

Additionally, the Bharat AI Shakti Conclave was held alongside the ceremony. It brought together industry leaders and suppliers to build a wider AI ecosystem in the region and strengthen local industry participation.

Overall, the initiative aims to turn Visakhapatnam into a key global AI and digital hub, while ensuring local communities benefit from long-term growth. The Google $15 billion India investment is expected to reshape India’s digital infrastructure and strengthen its role in the global AI economy.
