Saudi Arabia Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Ministry of Investment have backed two agreements to support a new data centre project in Saudi Arabia.

Firstly, one agreement was signed with Shareek Program, formally known as the Saudi Energy and Private Sector Partnership Programme. Meanwhile, a second agreement was signed between Dawiyat Integrated Telecommunications & Information Technology Company, a wholly owned unit of Saudi Electricity Company, and the Ministry of Investment.

According to an official statement, the planned data centre aims to enhance the reliability of digital services. In addition, it is expected to ensure business continuity and support the growth of data driven industries.

Furthermore, authorities said the project will help develop advanced digital infrastructure. It is also intended to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional data centre hub. At the same time, it will accelerate the transition toward an integrated digital economy and attract high value investments into the IT sector.

However, details regarding the project’s location, size, and construction timeline have not been disclosed.

Earlier, Edarat Communication and Information Technology Company secured a framework agreement with Saudi Energy. The agreement covers design, construction supervision, testing, and commissioning services for upcoming data centre projects across the Kingdom.

Overall, the move reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued push to expand its digital infrastructure and reinforce its role in the global data economy in Saudi Arabia.
