The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is advancing Dubai’s smart city agenda by strengthening its digital and technological ecosystem. Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said the authority is aligning with leadership directives to reinforce Dubai’s position as the world’s smartest city through continued innovation and digital transformation.

He noted that RTA is adopting the latest digital technologies and artificial intelligence applications. This is aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing system readiness across services. Moreover, these efforts support Dubai’s future ambitions and strengthen its global leadership in smart mobility and digital transformation within a smart city framework.

Al Tayer added that investment in advanced technology infrastructure remains a key pillar. It helps ensure service sustainability. It also improves quality of life and delivers a better customer experience. In addition, it supports long-term operational resilience across transport services.

He made these remarks during a visit to the Technology Operation Control Centre (TOCC). The centre is an integrated hub that manages and monitors RTA’s technical services and systems. It is designed to ensure business continuity. It also enhances operational efficiency around the clock through a unified operating framework based on technical support and continuous monitoring of digital infrastructure.

Furthermore, he said digital transformation has become an integrated ecosystem. It is driven by intelligent data analysis. It also relies on proactive anticipation of operational challenges. As a result, decision-making efficiency and response times are improved. This strengthens business continuity and operational resilience across RTA sectors and services within Dubai’s smart city model.

During the visit, he reviewed the centre’s operations and monitoring mechanisms. These systems run 24/7 and oversee technical services and infrastructure performance. He was also briefed on smart solutions used to manage digital infrastructure, applications, and databases. These systems are aligned with high standards of cybersecurity, readiness, and operational efficiency.

In addition, he reviewed operational units within the centre. These include the IT Support Centre, which provides round-the-clock technical support. There is also the Operations Monitoring Centre, which proactively detects faults and operational challenges. Technical systems operations teams also ensure continuous system integration and readiness.

The integrated operating model at the centre ensures secure and reliable management of technical infrastructure, applications, and databases. It also strengthens service continuity and enables faster response to operational requirements. This further supports the expansion of AI-driven systems and digital transformation initiatives.

The centre handles more than 200 server-hosting units across data centres. It also processes over 500 support requests daily. This is managed through a 24/7 monitoring and operations framework. Consequently, it enhances reliability and strengthens performance across digital systems.

Moreover, the centre has undergone major upgrades to improve operational efficiency and modernise its technical environment. These upgrades follow international best practices in data centre management. As a result, the centre has achieved the international Tier III classification, a global standard for reliability and service continuity.

Overall, these developments reinforce Dubai’s smart city ambitions. The RTA continues to expand its digital infrastructure and AI capabilities to support a smarter, more sustainable, and highly efficient urban mobility ecosystem.
