Cisco AI Trust Gap is becoming a critical focus for organizations as businesses accelerate the adoption of agentic AI. Cisco has outlined five essential strategies to help enterprises build trust, strengthen security, and protect AI-driven environments against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

According to Cisco, agentic AI has the potential to drive significant productivity gains and innovation across organizations, including those in the UAE. However, businesses must also navigate the rapid changes AI is introducing, particularly in the areas of security, privacy, and infrastructure.

The company noted that trust has become a fundamental requirement for successful AI adoption. Without it, employees and customers are less likely to fully embrace AI technologies.

Jeetu Patel, President and Chief Product Officer at Cisco, highlighted the competitive importance of trust in AI. He said, “The ability to delegate a task in a trusted form is going to be the difference between being a market leader versus being bankrupt.”

Cisco added that organizations must build trust directly into their infrastructure rather than treating it as an afterthought. As AI adoption scales, secure deployment will become a defining factor for enterprise success.

Five ways to secure the agentic enterprise

Establish the fundamentals

Cisco said attackers often exploit basic security weaknesses. Organizations should strengthen foundational security by implementing phishing-resistant multifactor authentication, robust identity verification, least-privilege access for users and AI agents, and Zero Trust architectures.

In addition, businesses should prioritize patch management, asset visibility, and configuration management to reduce risk.

Upgrade infrastructure

Cisco emphasized that legacy systems create unnecessary exposure to cyber threats. Organizations should replace end-of-life platforms that can no longer receive security updates or patches.

Modern infrastructure should also include advanced security capabilities such as memory safety mechanisms and exploit mitigations that can adapt to future attack techniques.

Defend at machine speed

As cyber threats continue to evolve, Cisco said human response alone is no longer sufficient. Organizations should invest in automation that enables machine-speed threat detection, automated triage, rapid containment, and continuous monitoring of identities and sensitive data.

According to Cisco, these capabilities are essential to addressing attacks that move faster than traditional security operations.

Embed security into operations

Cisco said post-incident analysis is no longer enough. Instead, organizations should integrate security controls directly into workloads, devices, and network traffic.

The company recommended deploying inline enforcement, runtime protections, and updateable exploit shields that can respond to threats in real time. These measures help strengthen the Cisco AI Trust Gap strategy by embedding protection throughout enterprise infrastructure.

Use AI to defend AI

Cisco also encouraged organizations to adopt AI-powered security capabilities. These include AI-driven threat hunting, conformance testing, digital twins, and validation processes.

The company said agentic AI can function as a virtual security team member, helping reduce deployment cycles from months to days while improving overall cyber resilience.

Cisco portfolio supports trusted AI adoption

Cisco said its portfolio combines AI-powered networking, security, and observability solutions within a platform-based approach to help organizations strengthen enterprise security. The company also provides professional services and promotes responsible AI practices to support secure AI deployment.

Additionally, Cisco has published its white paper, Shields Up: Guidance for Defending in the Age of AI-enabled Attacks, offering further guidance on protecting organizations against AI-powered cyber threats.
