DEWA AI Hackathon marked World Youth Skills Day 2026 as the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Youth Council organised a three day event focused on advancing artificial intelligence skills among young employees.

Held at Al Shera’a, DEWA’s new headquarters, the hackathon brought together 50 young DEWA employees. Participants joined applied workshops and interactive competitions designed to strengthen their understanding of advanced artificial intelligence technologies, with a strong focus on agentic AI.

During the event, participants explored the latest AI technologies and methods. They also developed innovative AI driven solutions while improving their practical skills. In addition, specialised experts evaluated the projects and ideas presented, encouraging participants to tackle different challenges and maximise the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence.

The DEWA AI Hackathon was organised to coincide with World Youth Skills Day, observed annually on 15 July. The initiative reflects DEWA’s continued investment in developing future ready talent and accelerating AI adoption across its operations.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the authority fully supports the forward looking directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make the UAE the world’s first government to broadly deploy agentic AI models across 50 percent of its sectors and operations.

He added that DEWA is committed to equipping employees with the tools and technologies needed to drive this transformation. According to Al Tayer, the authority is focused on expanding young employees’ practical knowledge of AI systems while strengthening their ability to use these technologies effectively, responsibly and safely. He noted that this approach prepares them for the demands of the future economy.

Al Tayer also highlighted that DEWA is the first government entity in the UAE to deploy agentic AI models within its operations. He added that it is also among the first utility organisations globally to adopt AI to improve operational efficiency. He said deeper youth engagement with these technologies will strengthen their ability to make independent decisions while reinforcing DEWA’s global leadership.

Meanwhile, Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, President of DEWA’s Youth Council, said the organisation has remained committed to supporting DEWA’s strategic direction since beginning its AI journey in 2017. She noted that the council continues to strengthen the direct contribution of young employees in advancing artificial intelligence, innovation and digital transformation across the organisation.

Through the DEWA AI Hackathon, the authority continues to invest in youth development while accelerating AI adoption. The initiative further supports the UAE’s vision of building a skilled workforce capable of leading the next phase of digital transformation through advanced artificial intelligence.
