Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has announced the new Canvio Ready portable external hard disk drive (HDD).

The redesigned 2.5-inch drive features a fresh, timeless look. Additionally, it includes grip-enhancing ribbed detailing for easier handling. The top cover is made using 65% recycled material, giving buyers a more sustainable storage option. Despite the redesign, the drive retains the simple plug-and-play operation that Canvio Ready is known for.

The Canvio Ready is available in capacities of up to 4TB. As a result, it offers plenty of space for everyday digital needs. Whether users want to back up family photos, store important files, or keep a growing media library close at hand, the drive provides a straightforward solution. There is no software installation or setup required. Users simply connect the drive to their computer and start saving right away.

The device ships with a USB Type-A to Micro-B cable. Furthermore, it uses USB 3.2 Gen 1 technology, delivering transfer speeds of up to 5Gbit/s. At the same time, it remains backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices. Since the drive is USB-powered, no external power supply is needed. This makes portable storage simple and convenient. The HDD comes pre-formatted for Microsoft Windows, so users can start using it immediately. Meanwhile, Mac systems are supported after reformatting.

In terms of reliability, the drive continues to perform dependably. Toshiba’s ramp load design helps protect the drive mechanism during transport. Moreover, integrated shock sensors offer additional protection against excessive shock events.

Commenting on the launch, Larry Martinez-Palomo, Vice President of the Storage Products Division at Toshiba Electronics Europe, said the new Canvio Ready reflects the company’s approach to continuous product refinement. He added that it preserves the performance, reliability, and convenience users expect. According to him, the redesigned enclosure provides a more confident grip. At the same time, the use of recycled material gives customers another opportunity to make an environmentally conscious purchasing choice.

The new Canvio Ready will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities starting in the fourth quarter.
