Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the successful conclusion of RTA AI Week, a dedicated exhibition aimed at promoting its Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030. The event took place at RTA’s headquarters and focused on showcasing the authority’s AI-powered initiatives to employees and strategic partners.

RTA AI Week featured 11 projects aligned with six strategic pillars of the AI Strategy. These pillars include Seamless and Innovative Mobility, People Happiness, Smart Traffic Management, Smart Licensing, Asset Excellence, and Future Readiness.

According to RTA, the event demonstrated how artificial intelligence can enhance service delivery, improve integrated mobility systems, and support the adoption of international best practices.

Among the initiatives revealed was the Bus Drivers Support System: Control and Operation Centre, which uses AI to analyse voice and data for real-time communication between drivers and the control centre.

RTA also showcased a Dubai Metro Water and Electricity Consumption Forecast Dashboard, which applies predictive analytics to ensure efficient and sustainable use of resources.

Other AI applications presented during RTA AI Week included:

  • Madinati WhatsApp service, which enables the public to report damage to transport assets
  • Smart Cycling Track Infrastructure Assessment, using global indicators to evaluate safety and comfort
  • Smart Road Asset Assessment System, which integrates LiDAR technology and AI to prioritise maintenance

Additionally, RTA reported on the Smart Traffic Management system hosted at the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre. This platform uses big data and AI to optimise traffic flows.

The AI-Powered Bus Network Management tool was also highlighted. It evaluates ridership patterns to enhance route planning. Another system, the Instructor Monitoring System, employs in-vehicle AI cameras to oversee driving instructors and improve training quality.

The authority also unveiled the Plate Price Prediction System, which forecasts vehicle plate auction revenues using historical data. Another project, Public Transport Station Management Using AI, monitors crowd density to improve passenger movement and reduce wait times.

RTA further reported the integration of Microsoft Copilot-Enabled Operations for internal task automation and data analysis.

Throughout RTA AI Week, sessions and forums were held to discuss the role of AI in urban mobility and smart city development. A three-day AI Hackathon was also part of the event. During the hackathon, RTA employees competed to create new AI-driven mobility solutions. The week concluded with an awards ceremony for the winning teams.

Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, CEO of the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector and Deputy Head of RTA’s AI and Data Science Team, stated that the exhibition aligned with the momentum created during Dubai AI Week last April. That event was held under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

He emphasized that engaging employees and partners is key to implementing AI use cases and strengthening internal AI governance and technical skills.

RTA officially launched its Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030 in April. The strategy consists of 81 projects designed to position the authority as a leader in AI-powered mobility and to support improved quality of life in Dubai.

The RTA AI Week marks a continuing step in Dubai’s broader digital transformation.
