The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), announced a major collaboration with NVIDIA to launch the Middle East’s first Joint Lab for artificial intelligence, AI & robotics.

The TII-NVAITC (NVIDIA AI Technology Center) Joint Lab aims to develop next-generation AI models, robotics platforms, and humanoid technologies. This initiative will accelerate innovation across industries in the region.

The announcement was made during a signing ceremony at TII’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The agreement was signed by Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, and Marc Domenech, Regional Director, Enterprise – META Region at NVIDIA. Officials present included H.E. Shahab Abu Shahab, Director General at ATRC, and John Josephakis, Global VP of Sales for HPC/Supercomputing at NVIDIA.

The collaboration positions Abu Dhabi as a hub for applied AI research and intelligent autonomous systems. It also reinforces the UAE’s growing role as a global leader in AI and robotics.

“This partnership with NVIDIA marks a major step toward AI-enhanced robotic systems capable of reasoning and adapting in complex environments,” said Dr. Najwa Aaraj. “We are laying the foundation for a new era of intelligent machines.”

The TII-NVAITC Lab will combine NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms with TII’s research in AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and high-performance computing. Research will focus on robotic learning, control at scale, and large language models, including TII’s Falcon AI models – the Middle East’s first and largest AI models.

Carlo Ruiz, Vice President – Enterprise Solutions & Operations EMEA at NVIDIA, added, “This lab expands our global NVAITC network into robotics for the first time in the Middle East, enabling breakthroughs that will shape the future of intelligent systems.”

The lab supports TII’s broader strategy for applied AI research, open innovation, and global knowledge exchange. It will also leverage modular robotic platforms, including robotic arms and delivery robots, to ensure practical readiness alongside technical excellence.
