Apple has announced a redesigned Blood Oxygen feature for Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users. The update will be available later today through an iPhone and Apple Watch software update.

Users in the U.S. who do not currently have the Blood Oxygen feature can access it by updating their paired iPhone to iOS 18.6.1 and their Apple Watch to watchOS 11.6.1. Following the update, sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone. Results can then be viewed in the Respiratory section of the Health app. This update was enabled by a recent U.S. Customs ruling.

Apple clarified that there will be no impact on Apple Watch units previously purchased with the original Blood Oxygen feature or units purchased outside the U.S.

Apple’s teams continue to develop health, wellness, and safety features grounded in science and designed with privacy in mind. Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2 also offer:

  • Irregular rhythm notifications, the ECG app, and Sleep Apnea Notifications
  • Fall Detection, sleep tracking, and wrist temperature sensing
  • Vitals, Noise, Medications, and Mindfulness apps

These tools aim to help users live a healthier life.
