Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced the general availability of Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS). The service enables customers to quickly run and scale VMware workloads on AWS. Amazon EVS lets users run VMware Cloud Foundation on AWS without re-platforming or re-factoring applications.

With Amazon EVS, customers can use familiar VMware tools to manage their virtualization stack while benefiting from AWS’s security, reliability, and performance. They can also leverage VMware Cloud Foundation license portability to run workloads alongside other AWS applications. This maximizes VMware investments without changing IP addresses, retraining staff, or rewriting operational runbooks.

Customers can self-manage Amazon EVS or work with AWS Partner Network members who are experienced in VMware Cloud Foundation environments. Companies such as Aeromexico, Alcaldía de Cali, Effectual, and Huron Consulting Group are already using Amazon EVS to modernize and migrate VMware workloads.

Steven Jones, General Manager of Commercial Applications at AWS, stated, “Amazon EVS offers customers a straightforward way to bring VMware workloads to AWS while increasing agility, reducing costs, and accelerating innovation.”

Ahmar Mohammad, Vice President of VMware Cloud Foundation at Broadcom, added, “This service helps customers maximize their VMware investments while benefiting from AWS’s scale and innovation.”

Amazon EVS allows deployment within Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) and integrates with AWS services. Customers can use tools like Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP for backup and recovery. They can also leverage AWS analytics, storage, databases, serverless compute, and generative AI services like Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q for Business.

  • Alcaldía de Cali migrated 75% of workloads to AWS within three weeks.
  • Aeromexico adopted Amazon EVS to modernize applications and accelerate its cloud journey.
  • Effectual and Huron Consulting Group are using the service to streamline VMware migrations and maintain operational efficiency.
