AWS Launches $50 Million Generative AI Initiative for Public Sector

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled the AWS Public Sector Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Initiative. This two-year, $50 million investment aims to support public sector organizations and their technology partners in accelerating innovation for critical missions using AWS generative AI services and infrastructure. Key services include Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Q, Amazon SageMaker, AWS HealthScribe, AWS Trainium, and AWS Inferentia.

 Initiative Overview

AWS will provide up to $50 million in AWS Promotional Credits, training, and technical expertise to selected generative AI projects. Selection criteria will consider the customer’s experience in developing technology solutions, the maturity of project ideas, evidence of potential adoption, and the customer’s generative AI skills. The initiative is open to new and existing AWS Worldwide Public Sector customers and partners globally, focusing on addressing society’s most pressing challenges through generative AI solutions.

 Commitment to Safe and Responsible AI

The AWS Public Sector Generative AI Impact Initiative reflects AWS’s dedication to the safe, secure, and responsible development of AI technology. AWS is a partner in the National Science Foundation’s National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot, providing U.S.-based researchers and educators with access to advanced AI research tools. Additionally, AWS is a member of the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium, contributing $5 million to develop safety evaluation tools for foundation models. AWS also supports the AI for Changemakers Accelerator program and the Now Go Build CTO Fellowship program led by AWS Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels.
