The UAE Cybersecurity Council (CSC) has warned that sharing personal data on social media can increase the risk of cyber fraud. It stressed that posting sensitive information exposes individuals to scams and privacy violations.

The Council explained that fraudsters can use seemingly small details to design targeted attacks. Even basic information about home addresses, phone numbers, or travel plans can be exploited. Photos of families or private moments also pose risks when shared online.

Around 40 percent of users have faced privacy violations due to oversharing on social media, the CSC noted. This highlights the growing threat of identity theft, asset theft, and other cyber-related crimes.

The Council urged users to stay vigilant. It advised keeping software updated, restricting access to cameras, microphones, and location services, and creating strong passwords. Multi-factor authentication and safe online practices can also reduce risks.

Individuals should verify secure ways to share information and avoid unsecured platforms. Monitoring accounts regularly and carefully checking messages are crucial, as fraudsters increasingly use advanced methods to steal financial and personal data.

The Cyber Pulse awareness campaign, launched by the CSC for the second year, supports the UAE’s efforts to build a safe digital environment. The initiative promotes cybersecurity culture, raises awareness among families, and strengthens trust in the nation’s digital ecosystem.

By following these measures, users can prevent cyber fraud and protect their personal information while navigating the growing digital landscape.
