Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the development of a DEWA smart solution for designing electricity distribution networks. The solution supports effective planning of 11kV networks. It aims to improve design efficiency and reduce time and costs. As a result, it enhances the reliability and sustainability of Dubai’s electricity distribution system.

The solution is currently being implemented within DEWA’s power and water planning division. It supports the authority’s efforts to promote innovation and advanced digital applications in the energy sector, according to information revealed by the utility.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the DEWA smart solution aligns with the vision to integrate advanced technologies across key sectors. He noted that transforming multiple data sources into practical tools supports decision-making and improves performance efficiency. He added that using advanced software reduces planning time, lowers costs and improves design accuracy and flexibility. Consequently, this strengthens the readiness of the electricity network to keep pace with urban and economic growth, as reported.

The innovative DEWA smart solution comprises advanced software that creates two databases linked to network design software. This enables end users to design 11kV networks more efficiently. The system collects data from multiple sources, including peak load sheets, the SAP system and master single-line diagrams. It then analyses and consolidates the data into a unified format to support accurate and clear network designs.

The implementation of the DEWA smart solution has delivered measurable results. These include reduced planning and design costs, shorter processing times and more streamlined electricity distribution network designs. This has improved the quality of engineering output and supported service continuity in line with required standards.

Abdulla Al Aghbari, Acting Executive Vice President of Power and Water Planning at DEWA, said the DEWA smart solution integrates data from multiple sources into a single platform. He explained that it accelerates design processes and supports more efficient planning decisions. He added that the solution enhances the resilience of the electricity grid and supports Dubai’s future growth requirements.

Key outcomes of the DEWA smart initiative include:

  • Faster and more accurate 11kV network design
  • Lower planning and design costs
  • Improved efficiency through integrated digital data

The development reflects DEWA’s continued investment in organizational innovation and employee-driven digital solutions. It also supports the creation of a smart, reliable and sustainable electricity distribution network aligned with Dubai’s long-term goals.
