DEWA sustainable initiatives gained further momentum as Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), explored new opportunities for collaboration in sustainable energy and innovation.

The discussions took place during a meeting with Robert Hertzberg, senior fellow at Mission Possible Partnership and board member of First Public Hydrogen. A high-level delegation from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) also attended.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in research and development. In addition, both sides discussed advancing innovation and capacity building. This includes specialised training programmes across priority areas.

Key areas highlighted were smart grids and renewable energy. Energy storage and network upgrades were also discussed. Furthermore, the parties reviewed energy efficiency and cyber security. Photovoltaic system integration and advanced data analytics formed an important part of the dialogue.

The meeting was attended by Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA. Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager – Solar Energy at DEWA, was also present.

Al Tayer reaffirmed DEWA’s commitment to collaborating with leading international organisations. He emphasised the importance of exchanging technical expertise. Moreover, he underlined the need to strengthen national capacity and empower professionals.

He stated that these efforts support the energy transition and digital transformation. They also advance climate action goals. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

Through DEWA sustainable collaboration efforts, the utility continues to accelerate innovation, enhance expertise and reinforce its role in advancing clean energy and climate objectives in Dubai.
