His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council (DMC), chaired a meeting to review the Council’s key performance indicators for Dubai media, initiatives, and strategic targets. The meeting also covered Dubai Media Incorporated’s (DMI) digital transformation, officials reported.

His Highness highlighted that media is a key sector with significant potential to double its contribution to Dubai’s economic development. He emphasised strengthening public-private partnerships and supporting media institutions through clear governance and operational frameworks.

Sheikh Ahmed directed efforts to raise the media sector’s contribution to Dubai’s GDP from 1.4% to 3% by 2033. He stressed fostering innovation, investing in young Emirati talent, and producing high-quality content to reflect Dubai’s global leadership.

The meeting also focused on accelerating Dubai media’s digital transformation. His Highness noted that innovative tools and solutions are required to meet global technological advances and audience expectations.

Officials reviewed progress in key areas, including:

  • Growth of media exports, local content production, and foreign investment.
  • Establishment of the Dubai Film Development Committee and Dubai Gaming Committee.

Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of DMC, highlighted the expanded regulatory powers of the Council under Law No. (29) of 2024. She added that the Council supports Dubai’s position as a hub for media creativity and talent development.

Her Excellency Nehal Badri, Secretary General of DMC, said the Council strengthened global collaboration, launched the first Dubai Film and Games Forum, and enhanced programs such as the Media Leadership Programme and the Emirati Media Talent Pledge.

DMI’s integrated digital strategy, approved by His Highness, includes the “Awaan” platform for television content. The strategy aims to enhance Dubai media’s digital identity through original Emirati content, youth-focused storytelling, and emerging formats such as podcasts.

Young talent development was also emphasised. The DMI Youth Council and initiatives like the Media Pioneer Program and Leaders Diploma Program aim to train the next generation of media professionals and leaders.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and Council members, including Her Excellency Hala Badri, His Excellency Malek Al Malek, and other prominent media leaders.
