The United States has announced a major federal effort, called the Genesis Mission, to build an integrated artificial intelligence platform that uses government scientific datasets to train new technologies.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to launch the initiative. Officials reported that the program, called the Genesis Mission, is designed to transform scientific research and speed discoveries across multiple fields.

The White House revealed that the U.S. Energy Department and the national laboratories will lead the mission. They will unite advanced computing systems, scientific expertise, and vast datasets into one cooperative research system.

Officials said the Energy Department will create a closed loop AI experimentation platform. It will integrate national supercomputers and government datasets to generate scientific foundation models and power robotic laboratories.

Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the mission aims to unlock federal datasets and massively accelerate scientific breakthroughs. He reported that AI agents will automate experiment design, accelerate simulations, and generate predictive models.

Therefore, the Genesis Mission is expected to shorten discovery timelines from years to days or even hours. It will support research in areas such as:

• Protein folding
• Fusion plasma dynamics

Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted the rapid private sector investment in AI. He said the government wants to shift some of this momentum toward scientific discovery and engineering advancements, which require access to the scientific datasets held at national labs.

The executive order also highlights national security priorities. It covers biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission and fusion energy, space exploration, quantum information science, semiconductors, and microelectronics.

Officials reported that the Genesis Mission will play a central role in using AI to support national, economic, and health security.
