Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has unveiled a groundbreaking liquid flow sensing platform aimed at improving the accuracy of dosing liquid medications and enhancing patient treatment. This innovative solution is designed for use in various applications, including medical fluid management, wearable drug delivery, and in vitro diagnostics.

The new sensing platform has the potential to streamline healthcare operations, enabling clinicians to save time and offer patients more personalized therapies. As a result, patients could benefit from faster recoveries and potentially return home from the hospital sooner. This development aligns with Honeywell’s broader strategy to create digital solutions that address key healthcare challenges, while supporting major industry trends such as automation.

“Healthcare is facing tremendous challenges today, with a stretched workforce and legacy equipment requiring frequent calibration and maintenance,” said Sarah Martin, President of Honeywell Sensing Solutions. “By developing digital technologies that ease the burden on healthcare workers, we can enhance the patient experience, reduce equipment intervention needs, and advance the future of healthcare.”

Many existing technologies used to administer medications are prone to errors or require frequent adjustments. For instance, patients receiving intravenous (IV) treatment may inadvertently move their arm or bump into the machine, necessitating clinician intervention to correct the medication flow. Honeywell’s new liquid flow sensing platform addresses this issue with thermopile technology, which accurately calculates flow rates and integrates other advanced sensing capabilities to reduce errors caused by movement.

This innovation enables healthcare equipment to maintain precise medication flow, even during patient movement, and reduces the need for manual adjustments. As a result, clinicians can devote more time to patient care, while also reducing medication waste, particularly with high-cost drugs.

Additionally, the platform’s sensors continuously monitor medication flow, detecting blockages and irregularities that could hinder effective drug delivery. Its small, compact design offers more portability and space efficiency, critical for the growing demand for home care solutions.

Honeywell’s latest sensing technology is poised to play a key role in reshaping healthcare practices, making treatment more accurate, efficient, and personalized for patients while supporting the industry’s shift toward automation and digital transformation.
