IFS, the Industrial AI software provider, and Boston Dynamics, the global mobile robotics, announced a strategic collaboration to transform field operations in asset-intensive industries. The partnership combines Boston Dynamics’ autonomous Spot robots with IFS.ai’s agentic AI, creating a fully integrated system that connects sensing, predictive decision-making, and execution in the field.

The companies revealed the solution at Industrial X Unleashed in New York. The system allows Spot robots to inspect industrial assets and sites, capturing critical operational data in real-time. Using thermal cameras, the robots detect overheating, listen for air or gas leaks, read analog gauges, monitor indicator lights, identify hazards like spills, and detect voltage anomalies. This data is analyzed by IFS.ai, which triggers intelligent actions and creates a seamless loop from sensing to execution.

The collaboration focuses on industries where field operations are critical, including manufacturing, energy, utilities, and mining. It addresses labor and skills shortages, helping organizations improve safety, efficiency, and uptime. Autonomous inspections reduce human exposure to hazardous environments. Agentic AI enables faster decision-making and predictive maintenance to prevent failures.

Christian Pedersen, Chief Product Officer at IFS, said the integrated system turns robot observations into enterprise actions, from preventive maintenance to automated anomaly detection. Dr. Merry Frayne, Director of Product at Boston Dynamics, highlighted that the collaboration sets a new standard for operational excellence. Ron Utterbeck, CIO at Eversource, added that the technology allows skilled crews to focus on mission-critical priorities, shifting from reactive to predictive maintenance.
