Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX) today announced the successful deployment of the Nutanix Cloud Platform at Jeddah University, supporting classroom, lab, and remote learning environments while exceeding cost-saving expectations.

The deployment was revealed as part of the University’s efforts to enhance digital learning and modernise its IT infrastructure. Jeddah University, one of Saudi Arabia’s newest public universities, offers programmes designed to prepare students for roles in the Kingdom’s evolving job market. Its digital-first approach aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on building a knowledge-based economy.

As part of the ‘New Saudi University Mission’, the institution emphasises collaboration, innovation, and community impact. Therefore, virtual desktops play a critical role. Students rely on them to attend classes, access research labs, collaborate with peers, and securely use academic resources from any location.

However, rising VDI-related operational costs, inconsistent performance, and IT complexity began to impact remote learning and lab experiences. As a result, the University standardised its infrastructure on Nutanix Cloud to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance virtual desktops.

The solution was reported to integrate smoothly with core university applications. These include the Learning Management System, Student Information System, and productivity tools such as Microsoft Office. Consequently, system stability and performance improved across the campus.

According to the University, the deployment delivered measurable benefits:

  • New virtual desktop machines can be provisioned in under three minutes
  • IT management overhead and operational time were reduced by more than 45%
  • Overall operating costs declined by approximately 40%

In addition, both student and staff productivity and satisfaction increased due to faster and more reliable access to digital resources.

Looking ahead, Jeddah University revealed plans to expand its use of advanced technologies. The institution is currently developing a strategic roadmap for GenAI and other emerging solutions. Nutanix Cloud is expected to play a key role in supporting these initiatives as the University continues its digital transformation journey.
