NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), the intelligent data infrastructure company, announced that Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP® is now a supported external storage solutions option for Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) on AWS. Amazon EVS, now generally available, allows users to run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) directly within their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).

This integration enables organizations to migrate VMware workloads to AWS seamlessly. Customers can extend and expand their VMware environments while improving business agility and transformation. NetApp’s secure data management capabilities combined with AWS’s performance allow customers to simplify cloud migration without re-platforming existing applications.

Migrating mission-critical workloads to the cloud helps reduce operational costs, eliminate aging infrastructure, and meet critical business timelines. As the only enterprise storage provider with a first-party data storage service natively built on AWS, NetApp helps customers accelerate modern workloads while reducing costs by up to 50% with FSx for ONTAP.

“Customers using Amazon EVS with FSx for ONTAP can now enjoy the same data efficiency, protection, and automation they trust on-premises,” said Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage at NetApp. “Our collaboration with AWS makes it easier to move critical workloads to the cloud and manage them at scale.”

NetApp also announced new capabilities for cloud workload management:

  • Migration advisor for Amazon EVS workloads: Simplifies discovery, provisioning, and placement of datastores using FSx for ONTAP.
  • Expanded VMware disaster recovery: BlueXP disaster recovery now integrates with Amazon EVS, using FSx for ONTAP as a reliable target.
  • Enhanced ransomware protection: ONTAP autonomous ransomware protection detects threats in real time, while BlueXP orchestrates comprehensive defense across hybrid cloud environments.

Xtravirt, a NetApp Preferred Partner and AWS partner, highlighted that support for FSx for ONTAP on Amazon EVS allows businesses to efficiently manage hybrid deployments while leveraging advanced data management functionalities.

NetApp emphasized that no ransomware detection system guarantees complete safety, but its technology acts as an essential additional layer of defense.
