OPSWAT has appointed Jan Miller as its new Chief Technology Officer, expanding his role to lead a newly created Technology Center. In this position, he will align research, engineering, and product development. He will also drive the company’s strategy for advanced threat detection at scale at organizational perimeters. As a result, the company aims to close gaps between sandbox analysis and threat intelligence. This approach is designed to stop evasive threats earlier in the file lifecycle before they reach users, systems, or critical networks.

According to Benny Czarny, Founder and CEO of OPSWAT, the appointment strengthens the company’s focus on next-generation AI-driven threat prevention. He said Miller brings deep technical expertise and strong engineering leadership. Moreover, he highlighted Miller’s work in applying AI and advanced research to real-world malware detection. He added that Miller has helped shape the company’s use of adaptive sandboxing, behavioral analysis, and threat intelligence at scale. Consequently, the company expects his leadership to accelerate research and innovation focused on perimeter protection.

Miller brings more than a decade of experience developing malware analysis and threat detection technologies used by security teams worldwide. He is widely known for contributions to sandboxing, behavioral analysis, and evasive malware research. In addition, he founded multiple cybersecurity companies that were later acquired by CrowdStrike and OPSWAT. Since joining in late 2022, he has held roles with increasing responsibility, most recently serving as CTO of Threat Analysis.

Miller said modern malware defense requires sandboxing to work closely with threat intelligence at the perimeter, where files first enter environments and decisions must be made quickly. He explained that this integration will help customers reduce alert noise, speed up response times, and improve protection across critical environments. Furthermore, he noted that the new Technology Center will focus on advancing this integration to strengthen enterprise cybersecurity.

Beyond his corporate role, Miller serves as a board member of the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization. There, he advocates for transparency and standardized evaluation of security technologies. As a lead author of AMTSO’s Sandbox Evaluation Framework, he has helped define testing standards for modern sandbox solutions. Ultimately, these efforts support the broader mission of advancing cybersecurity innovation and reinforce OPSWAT’s focus on protecting critical infrastructure.
