The SANS Institute today announced the official release of its AI security blueprint, “Own AI Securely”, providing a structured model to help organizations adopt artificial intelligence safely and responsibly. The blueprint meets growing demand from global enterprises seeking guidance on AI safety, compliance, and operational control.

Security teams across public and private sectors are being asked to defend AI systems that evolve faster than existing protocols. Experts report a strong need for workforce skills that keep pace with AI developments.

The UAE has positioned AI as a key driver of governance, growth, and economic diversification. Its National Strategy for AI 2031 emphasizes AI integration for efficiency, sustainability, and new growth opportunities. According to PwC, global AI spending is projected to exceed USD 300 billion by 2026, with AI contributing up to 13.6% of the UAE’s GDP by 2030.

Rob T. Lee, Chief of Research and Chief AI Officer at SANS Institute, said, “As AI roles shift and new risks emerge, organizations must respond decisively. This blueprint provides structure where direction was lacking.”

The blueprint introduces a three-track model aligned with 14 industry-leading training courses and GIAC certifications. These tracks help organizations build a capable AI cybersecurity workforce:

  • Protect AI – Defend AI systems from poisoning, prompt attacks, and data leaks. Strong controls ensure safe deployment and monitoring.
  • Utilize AI – Security teams can harness AI in SOCs, digital forensics, and red teams to accelerate threat detection and response.
  • Govern AI – Executives and boards maintain oversight, ensure compliance, implement policies, and build trust.

Lee added, “The SANS model provides clarity and alignment in an environment that was previously fragmented. Organizations now have actionable guidance based on real-world practices.”
