Seagate Mozaic 4+ has officially entered production, marking a major milestone in high-capacity data storage. The next-generation platform uses heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) and is now qualified with two leading hyperscale cloud providers.

The platform supports capacities up to 44TB per drive. Seagate plans to scale to 100TB in the future. The Mozaic 4+ includes a next-generation suspension architecture and an advanced system-on-a-chip. These improvements allow higher recording densities while maintaining enterprise-class reliability.

With additional customer qualifications underway, Seagate aims to expand adoption across hyperscale cloud environments. The company says the platform enables incremental capacity growth without disruptive architectural changes.

Data has become a critical enterprise asset. Seagate executives highlighted that Mozaic 4+ drives deliver the scale, efficiency, and performance needed for AI-driven workloads. They also noted the platform helps organizations maximize returns on data infrastructure investments.

Seagate’s production-scale HAMR technology uses vertically integrated photonics. This custom laser design strengthens manufacturing control, reliability, and supply chain resilience. Vertical integration also shortens qualification timelines and supports predictable production economics.

Artificial intelligence workloads require massive volumes of data, including historical archives and AI-generated content. Hyperscale providers rely on high-capacity drives to store and access these data pools efficiently. The Mozaic 4+ platform increases capacity per rack and per watt, lowers total cost of ownership, and reduces energy consumption.

In one-exabyte deployments, Mozaic 4+ can reduce data center footprint by 100 square feet and save roughly 0.8 million kilowatt-hours annually. Analysts say HAMR technology is increasingly critical to high-quality AI training and GenAI application performance.

Seagate’s Mozaic 4+ hard drives are now shipping in volume to two major cloud providers. Broader availability is expected as production continues to scale. Seagate Mozaic delivers the capacity and efficiency enterprises need to manage AI-scale data effectively.
