The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has officially launched the largest 220 kV substation in its network, strategically located in the airport area of Umm Fannin. This landmark project, valued at over AED 500 million, aims to enhance Sharjah’s energy infrastructure, supporting the city’s growing demand for reliable power.
In collaboration with Siemens Energy and General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting, SEWA has successfully developed a state-of-the-art facility that adheres to the highest global standards of quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
Hamad Al-Tunaiji, Director of Energy Transmission, emphasized SEWA’s ongoing commitment to advancing power transmission and distribution networks throughout Sharjah, ensuring consistent and sustainable energy delivery.
The new substation is equipped with four 400 MVA transformers (220/132 kV) and four 75 MVA transformers (132/33 kV), offering a total capacity of more than 1,200 MW. This expansion is set to bolster the city’s electrical grid, improving its reliability, flexibility, and capacity to meet increasing energy demands across key sectors.
Abdullah Al-Koos, Deputy Director of Energy Transmission, highlighted that the new substation marks a significant milestone for SEWA. It not only strengthens the city’s energy infrastructure but also supports Sharjah’s continued economic and urban development by ensuring future energy requirements are met efficiently.
This strategic addition to SEWA’s network reaffirms its dedication to providing a modern, reliable, and sustainable energy solution for Sharjah’s future growth.
