Dubai Municipality has launched the first AI-powered initiative to feed stray animals across the emirate. The project, named ‘Ehsan Stations,’ uses smart devices to provide food for cats and other stray animals. The move reflects Dubai’s commitment to animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and a cleaner urban landscape.

The municipality will install 12 smart devices in key locations. Ten will be placed in public parks, and two within Dubai Holding facilities. The stations use AI to identify animals, collect data, and dispense food accordingly. The initiative also aims to reduce random feeding, which can harm public spaces.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the stations promote humane values. “This initiative combines food provision with better management of stray populations,” she said. “It addresses random feeding practices that affect health, environment, and the community.”

The current phase is a pilot stage. Dubai Municipality will test and evaluate the stations to gather insights for further development. All devices are designed and manufactured in the UAE using advanced technology.

The municipality also runs shelters and implements Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) and Trap–Neuter–Vaccinate–Return (TNVR) programs. These ensure stray animals are neutered, vaccinated, and safely returned. Some animals are offered for adoption through the Dubai Municipality website.

Residents are encouraged to care for pets responsibly and report any concerns about stray animals by calling 800900. The initiative complements previous projects like the ‘Fountains of Mercy,’ which provide water for birds and wildlife in urban and desert areas.

The AI-powered ‘Ehsan Stations’ represent a step toward sustainable, data-driven, and humane animal care. They combine technology, community responsibility, and environmental protection to enhance Dubai’s liveability.
