The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) announced it has saved AED46 million by detecting and repairing 1,345 water leaks. The achievement was made possible through a satellite-enabled smart water detection initiative, which conserved 1,331 million gallons of water.

Eng. Faisal Al Sarkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, revealed that satellite technology was used to survey the 5,000 km-long network. He added that a field team inspected 950 km with acoustic devices to detect hidden leaks.

The use of advanced technologies and the team’s quick response enabled the detection and repair of leaks between March 2024 and May 2025.

  • 1,345 leaks repaired across Sharjah’s water network
  • AED46 million saved through smart water management
  • 1,331 million gallons of water conserved
