Tenable®, known for its expertise in Exposure Management, proudly announces its top ranking in the worldwide market for device vulnerability management in the IDC Worldwide Device Vulnerability Management Market Shares report titled “Exposures Present a Clear and Present Danger” (doc #US50271923, December 2023) for the year 2022. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Tenable has secured the first position, demonstrating a growth in market share from 27.5% in 2021 to 28.7%.

The IDC report highlights Tenable’s leadership in both global market share and revenue for the year 2022. Tenable attributes this achievement to its comprehensive approach to exposure management, which encompasses gathering exposure data from various facets of the modern attack surface, including IT infrastructure, cloud environments, containers, web applications, and identity systems. This approach empowers customers with actionable insights for proactive risk management.

The IDC market share report underscores the increasing availability of unified exposure management platforms from various vendors, ranging from startups to established players. These platforms facilitate the aggregation of vulnerabilities identified by device vulnerability scanners, alongside other tools such as application security tests, attack surface management (ASM), cloud platforms, cybersecurity asset management systems, and IoT/OT scanners. By offering enhanced visibility into the unified IT landscape, these platforms utilize AI algorithms to prioritize the risk associated with Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) and other vulnerabilities, enabling security teams to focus their efforts effectively.

Glen Pendley, Tenable’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasizes the significance of context in proactive cybersecurity efforts, likening it to a GPS that guides the security team in eliminating risks promptly. He highlights Tenable One, a solution that transforms the wealth of exposure data into actionable guidance by mapping the interrelationships between assets, vulnerabilities, privileges, and threats along potential attack paths.

Michelle Abraham, Research Director for Security and Trust at IDC, notes the shift among device vulnerability management vendors towards offering holistic platforms that consolidate exposures, enabling organizations to assess and communicate a unified perspective of cyber risk. Embracing a proactive cybersecurity approach through continuous exposure monitoring allows organizations to shrink their attack surface and potentially reduce their cyber insurance premiums, thereby ensuring that the investment in vulnerability management solutions yields tangible returns.
