The UAE Cybersecurity Council has warned that remote working is increasing cyber risks. Experts note that unsecured home routers are now a primary target for hackers.

These vulnerabilities can expose the data of individuals, institutions, and businesses to breaches. The Council told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that data protection is a critical priority. Remote-work-related cyber incidents have risen by over 40% in recent years.

Hackers are shifting their focus from centralized systems to home environments. The expansion of remote work has increased exposure, with 92% of experts saying home networks and personal devices heighten breach risks. Around 38% of attacks now target home routers and VPNs to intercept communications or steal credentials.

Beyond technical damage, these attacks cause financial loss and data leaks. Ransomware remains a growing threat that disrupts productivity without guaranteeing data recovery.

The Council recommends updating antivirus software, using secure VPNs, and being cautious on video conferencing platforms. Human vigilance is key; awareness and immediate reporting of phishing attempts strengthen national cybersecurity.

Ultimately, the UAE Cybersecurity Council emphasizes that individual caution is critical to protecting sensitive digital systems.
