During MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei hosted the Huawei Talent Summit with the theme ‘I C Talent: Nurturing Excellence in a Digital World,’ where it unveiled several talent development initiatives. Among the announcements was the launch of applications for the global ITU-Huawei Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme. Additionally, Huawei revealed a collaborative venture with UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) set to take place in Morocco. The summit also marked the inauguration of Huawei Cloud’s startup program, designed to foster the growth of startups worldwide.
The event attracted representatives from prominent international organizations such as ITU and UNESCO, government officials from Greece, Kenya, and Mexico, female industry leaders, entrepreneurs enrolled in the Huawei Cloud Startup Program, as well as participants from Seeds for the Future and various prestigious competitions.
During the summit, Mr. Mario Maniewicz, Director of the ITU’s Radiocommunication Bureau, unveiled the ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme in partnership with Huawei, speaking on behalf of Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau. Maniewicz encouraged individuals aged 18 to 28 to submit their community project ideas addressing the digital divide, offering funding, mentoring, and training opportunities for implementation.
Huawei’s involvement with UNESCO’s Global Alliance for Literacy (GAL) as an associate member was highlighted, along with a partnership agreement with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL). UIL Director Isabell Kempf emphasized the importance of empowering educators and announced the launch of a project, with Huawei’s support, aimed at enhancing the digital skills of literacy educators, including a significant initiative in Morocco benefiting 10,000 youth and adult literacy teachers, trainers, and managers.
Vicky Zhang, Vice President of Huawei’s Corporate Communications Dept, expressed satisfaction with the progress of joint projects with partners, underscoring Huawei’s commitment to nurturing digital talent globally.
Speakers from various regions, including Greece, Kenya, Mexico, and ASEAN, shared their experiences with Huawei’s local talent training programs. Duan Xiaolei, General Manager of Huawei Cloud’s Global Startup Ecosystem, outlined Huawei Cloud’s plans to support global startups through IT-based and intelligent processes and services, leveraging Huawei’s ecosystem resources to accelerate innovation.
The summit also saw the release of a digital badge for the Huawei ICT Academy, allowing teachers and students to showcase their achievements on platforms like LinkedIn. Huawei’s talent training and education initiatives have reached over 150 countries, benefiting more than 2.83 million individuals to date.
