Intel Core Ultra and 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors expand Intel’s unmatchedAI portfolio, bringing AI to all. During its “AI Everywhere” launch event in New York City, Intel unveiled an unparalleled range of AI products designed to facilitate AI solutions across various domains, including the data center, cloud, network, edge, and PC.

Key highlights from the event include:

  • Introduction of the Intel® Core™ Ultra mobile processor family, the first to utilize Intel 4 process technology. This processor marks the most significant architectural shift in 40 years, emphasizing power efficiency and ushering in the era of the AI PC.
  • Launch of the 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® processor family, incorporating AI acceleration in every core to achieve remarkable advancements in AI and overall performance, resulting in a reduced total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Unveiling of the Intel® Gaudi®3 AI accelerator by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, scheduled for release next year.

Gelsinger emphasized the transformative impact of AI innovation on the global digital economy, with predictions suggesting up to one-third of the global gross domestic product (GDP) being influenced by AI. He highlighted Intel’s commitment to developing technologies and solutions that seamlessly integrate and efficiently run AI across diverse applications, both in the cloud and at the edge where data is generated and utilized.

Intel’s AI portfolio spans across cloud and enterprise servers, networks, volume clients, and ubiquitous edge environments. Gelsinger expressed Intel’s mission to make AI accessible everywhere through meticulously engineered platforms, secure solutions, and support for open ecosystems.

The Intel Core Ultra, representing the company’s most substantial architectural shift in four decades, features a neural processing unit (NPU) as its first client on-chip AI accelerator. This innovation enables power-efficient AI acceleration with 2.5 times better efficiency than the previous generation. Intel is collaborating with over 100 software vendors to bring a diverse range of AI-boosted applications to the PC market, enhancing user experiences and performance.

Intel Core Ultra-based AI PCs are now available from select U.S. retailers for the holiday season, with plans to expand to over 230 designs globally within the next year. Predictions suggest that AI PCs will constitute 80% of the PC market by 2028, introducing new tools for work, learning, and creativity.

The 5th Gen Intel Xeon processor family, introduced simultaneously, delivers a substantial leap in performance and efficiency, reducing TCO by up to 77% for customers on a typical five-year refresh cycle. With built-in AI accelerators, the processor enhances the manageability and efficiency of demanding network and edge workloads across various industries.

Intel’s AI solutions extend beyond traditional computing environments, reaching unexpected places such as restaurants, manufacturing floors, ultrasounds, and power grids. These edge computing use cases, the fastest-growing segment in computing, are projected to become a $445 billion global market by the end of the decade.

To make AI hardware technologies accessible, Intel incorporates optimizations into popular AI frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow and provides foundational libraries through oneAPI. Advanced developer tools, including Intel’s oneAPI and OpenVINO toolkit, empower developers to harness hardware acceleration for AI workloads and solutions, facilitating the quick building, optimization, and deployment of AI models.

Intel concluded the event with a sneak peek at the Intel Gaudi3 AI Accelerator, set to launch the following year. Gaudi3 is positioned as the next-generation AI accelerator for deep learning and large-scale generative AI models, aiming to capture a significant portion of the accelerator market in 2024.

In collaboration with partners and a broad ecosystem, Intel is unlocking new growth opportunities fueled by AI, realizing its vision of bringing AI everywhere.
