Proofpoint, Inc., a cybersecurity and compliance firm, has successfully concluded its acquisition of Tessian, a leading expert in leveraging advanced AI for the automatic detection and defense against inadvertent data breaches and emerging email threats.

By merging Proofpoint’s cutting-edge technology for threat and data loss protection, along with its intelligence capabilities, with Tessian’s AI-driven behavioral and dynamic detection, organizations can now access the most comprehensive defense against risks associated with the human layer, regardless of their chosen deployment model. Given that over 90% of successful cyber-attacks and data loss incidents stem from attacks targeted at individuals and human errors, such as ransomware and Business Email Compromise (BEC), this combined solution offers unparalleled effectiveness.

Unlike alternatives that rely solely on threat intelligence or limit detections to AI, this integrated solution covers the entire spectrum of human-targeted threats, spanning social engineering, malware, and credential phishing. The joint platform empowers organizations to thwart data loss across critical collaboration channels like email, cloud, and endpoints, utilizing an unprecedented blend of user activity monitoring, behavioral AI, and data classification.

Proofpoint anticipates launching these powerful joint solutions in early 2024. Darren Lee, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Proofpoint’s Security Products and Services Group, highlighted the significance of Tessian’s innovative technology in enhancing Proofpoint’s threat and information protection platforms. He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the Tessian team to Proofpoint and helping organizations address the most prevalent form of data loss at crucial stages in the attack chain.

Jerry Kowalski, Chief Information Security Officer at Jefferies, emphasized the continued significance of email as a key risk vector for many organizations. He looks forward to witnessing how the combination of Tessian’s behavioral-based approach with Proofpoint’s industry-leading data protection will safeguard companies against advanced email risks and data loss.

Tessian’s recent recognition as a Strong Performer by Forrester Research, Inc. in The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Email Security, Q2 2023, further underscores the strength of its solutions, earning the highest scores in Vision, Support, and Customer Success criteria.
