An array of accomplished women achievers and entrepreneurs from across the globe and the region will gather to discuss the crucial role of women in sustainability and sustainable innovation at the forthcoming Women in Technology Forum and Awards event. Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation (SRTI) Park is honored to be the host for this event on September 20.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SRTI Park, is set to deliver a keynote address at the forum, which revolves around the theme of “Sustainability and Sustainable Innovation.” This theme aims to shine a spotlight on women’s significant contributions to this vital sector, aligning with the UAE’s preparations to host the Conference of the Parties (COP28).

This marks the fourth annual forum organized by the Women in Tech organization, bringing together researchers, experts, representatives from international organizations, advocates of women’s empowerment, female entrepreneurs, as well as government and private sector representatives. The event promises an immersive experience of knowledge sharing, engaging debates, and valuable networking opportunities.

The Women in Tech® MENA Awards, now in its second edition, will recognize exceptional women achievers in the field of innovation. These awards are part of a broader initiative that celebrates extraordinary women globally who drive innovation, inspire, and transform the technology sector. Last year’s event honored eight outstanding women innovators from the region.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park, emphasized that the forum aligns perfectly with the Park’s mission of encouraging women’s participation in innovative technology ventures. This aligns with the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to promote women’s empowerment. Al Mahmoudi stated, “Among SRTI Park’s goals is to work with local and international partners to identify more opportunities for the economic empowerment of women, enabling them to be leaders and contributors in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. This event also represents the celebration of the great achievements of Emirati women, especially in the technology sector.”

The theme of sustainability and sustainable innovation is particularly relevant as the UAE gears up to host COP28, a gathering aimed at exploring modern innovations and investment opportunities to support global efforts in achieving climate neutrality. This event will be attended by an array of world leaders and experts.

The forum will address several global issues highlighting the role of women and their achievements in this field. It will also focus on strategies to overcome challenges related to sustainable innovation and align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serve as a global roadmap for transformation.

Esteemed expert speakers will delve into the intricate interplay between innovation and sustainability while emphasizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The diverse program of the forum will include sessions on women’s leadership in family businesses, a pivotal element in the Gulf’s business landscape, as well as the potential of youth in driving sustainable innovation.

The Women in Technology Awards are part of an international awards program held on six continents, celebrating inspiring female role models in the technology sector. These awards are instrumental in empowering women to actively participate in development and shape the future of technology.
