Google has stated that starting next month, Chrome support for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 will expire.

On the support page of Google, it is given that Chrome 109 will be the last version that will support these two old Microsoft Windows Versions. On February 7, 2023, Google will unveil the Google Chrome v110 at which point the support for previous versions of Windows will be discontinued. If users need to use the updated versions of Google Chrome then they will have to get new systems with newer versions of windows installed.

The support page also said “Older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems. If you are currently on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1, we encourage you to move to a supported Windows version to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.”

While Google is pulling out its support for its browser for the older versions of Windows, Microsoft is ending its support for Windows 8.1. the support for the OS will stop on January 10, 2023. Microsoft will not be offering any Extended Security Update (ESU) unlike Windows 7 OS.

On a support page, the company wrote “Microsoft will not be offering an Extended Security Update (ESU) program for Windows 8.1. Continuing to use Windows 8.1 after January 10, 2023, may increase an organization’s exposure to security risks or impact its ability to meet compliance obligations.”

ESU is required if users want to run Microsoft products past the point of its end support. After the product’s end of the extended support period, it includes crucial security updates for up to three years. As a result, users of Windows PCs who still have machines running the Windows 8.1 OS will no longer receive the vital security upgrades that protect their computers and their data from online dangers.
