Tenable, an Exposure Management company, has unveiled ExposureAI, a suite of new generative AI capabilities and services integrated into the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform. This innovation is accompanied by the introduction of the Tenable Exposure Graph, a scalable data lake powered by Snowflake, which fuels the ExposureAI engine. This comprehensive data platform, housing data on over 1 trillion unique exposures, IT assets, and security findings (including vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and identities) across IT, public cloud, and OT environments, stands as the world’s largest contextual exposure data repository. It forms the backbone of Tenable’s array of Exposure Management products.

Historically, security teams have grappled with the challenge of prevention. The process of analyzing, interpreting findings, and determining remediation steps has been time-intensive, rendering organizational security reactive. Approximately 58% of cybersecurity and IT professionals reveal that their security teams are predominantly occupied with managing critical incidents, leaving little room for a proactive approach to reducing organizational exposure. Moreover, 73% of these professionals believe that dedicating more resources to preventive cybersecurity would enhance their organization’s defense against cyberattacks.

Effectively harnessing AI demands both data and expertise to yield meaningful insights. Since the introduction of its dynamic Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR) in 2019, Tenable has employed AI techniques to assist organizations in prioritizing vulnerabilities based on actual business risk. Recently, Tenable Research extended generative AI-developed research tools to the cybersecurity community free of charge. Tenable’s current endeavor involves leveraging generative AI to empower security teams further, enabling them to operate more efficiently and allocate resources toward thwarting successful attacks. The insights generated by Tenable ExposureAI democratize exposure management, transforming every analyst into an adept defender.

Tenable ExposureAI introduces three novel categories of generative AI-based preventive security capabilities that underpin exposure management programs:

1. Search: Empowers security teams to employ natural language search queries, facilitating the analysis of assets and exposures across their environments. This aids in comprehending pertinent contextual information and prioritizing remediation endeavors.

2. Explain: Offers precise mitigation guidance that capitalizes on Tenable’s extensive exposure data to provide security teams with lucid visibility and concise analysis of intricate attack paths, specific assets, or security findings.

3. Action: Provides actionable insights and recommended measures based on high-impact exposures, empowering security teams to proactively address risks and curtail their organization’s overall exposure.

Glen Pendley, Chief Technology Officer at Tenable, stated, “For years, Tenable has used its market-leading vulnerability management data and applied AI techniques to help organizations prioritize vulnerabilities based on true risk to the business. AI is a part of our DNA.

” He further elaborated, “Now we’re using generative AI to put more power than ever in the hands of security teams to inform their exposure management programs and root out cyber risk wherever it exists.”
Tenable One amalgamates vulnerability management, external attack surface management (EASM), identity security, web application and API scanning, and cloud security data to identify weaknesses before potential attackers can exploit them. This comprehensive monitoring approach ensures the broadest exposure management coverage available.
