TikTok has reached one billion users amid soaring popularity. The popular social media app is currently used by over one billion people worldwide, according to a statement released by TikTok on Monday. 

TikTok, which was created in 2016, is a popular video streaming and social networking website. Users rush to TikTok’s mobile app for music, humor, dance, and much more, and the app’s “For You” feed is generated by algorithms that learn your preferences.

Families are using online platforms like TikTok to be amused, educated, and connected in greater numbers than ever before. Of course, this was the case before COVID-19, but it has only grown since the epidemic began since social isolation has pulled families closer together. Families may express their creativity, tell their tales, and demonstrate support for their communities by using platforms like TikTok. Simultaneously, they are frequently learning to navigate the digital environment together and are concerned about assuring a safe experience.

The app is available in over 150 countries and has a global user base of hundreds of millions. On a daily basis, millions of individuals produce, post, and watch videos, as well as connect with one another, with some doing it for pleasure and others seeking to make a living out of it in the hopes of being the next great influencer.

The app, known in China as Douyin, was released in 2016 by TikTok’s current parent company – Bytedance. Musical.ly, another video app, was acquired by Bytedance in 2017. ByteDance merged Musical.ly with TikTok the following year, launching TikTok as a global brand.

According to Reuters, TikTok’s growth has so far been exponential, with the app growing from 55 million global users in January 2018 to 689 million by July 2020.

TikTok has generated a slew of competitors, including Instagram Reels. Google created YouTube Shorts, its own version of short-form videos, earlier this year.
