Uber has announced the launch of Senior Accounts across the MENA region. This new feature is designed to make the Uber app easier and more accessible for older adults.

The feature aims to help seniors move around with greater ease whether for doctor appointments, family visits, or grocery shopping while offering peace of mind to their loved ones.

Senior Accounts and Simple Mode are now rolling out in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Lebanon. Uber revealed that both the older adult and their family organiser do not need to live in the same location.

Available through Uber’s Family Profiles, the new Senior Account presents a streamlined version of the app. It features larger text, simplified screens, and the option for a trusted family member to provide remote support.

For older adults who prefer riding independently, Simple Mode can be activated through the app’s accessibility settings.

Uber reported that these features are part of its ongoing efforts to make mobility more inclusive. The company is building on the success of Teen Accounts and aims to bridge another key gap in transportation services.

Key benefits include:

  • Larger text, fewer steps, and easy-to-tap buttons
  • Real-time trip tracking for family members
  • Remote booking and ride management by loved ones

To get started, a family member creates a Family Profile and invites an older adult to join as a senior. The senior receives a link via text to download the app and set up an account. Once registered, they can book rides independently or with family assistance.

Uber clarified that even users not linked to a Family Profile can still enable Simple Mode through Accessibility settings.

The company noted that access to public transportation can be difficult for seniors in the region due to distance, infrequent schedules, or high temperatures. Uber’s new features help bridge this gap and support families across all life stages.

These updates were developed with input from older riders and accessibility advocates.

The MENA launch follows successful rollouts of similar features in the United States, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. Uber reaffirmed its commitment to building inclusive technology for every stage of life.
