Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, has opened a smart bus station at Mall of the Emirates, marking a major step in its efforts to build an integrated public transport network powered by digital technologies and smart solutions.

The project reflects RTA’s strategy to enhance customer service and strengthen Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainable mobility. It also aligns with the broader vision to create a connected and efficient transport ecosystem.

The station features a modern and sustainable design that aligns with RTA’s corporate identity and future outlook. Moreover, it delivers all customer services through 24/7 interactive and proactive digital systems. As a result, waiting times are reduced, and passengers benefit from a seamless and comfortable journey.

In addition, the smart bus station serves 11 bus routes and is directly connected to Mall of the Emirates Metro Station. This integration enables smooth transfers between different modes of transport, improving overall mobility across the city.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the launch marks a significant milestone in advancing public transport services. He added that the initiative supports RTA’s strategy to create a safe, seamless, and innovation-driven mobility environment.

Furthermore, Al Tayer noted that the project is part of a broader set of initiatives aimed at redefining daily mobility by integrating advanced technologies into infrastructure. This, he said, will enhance quality of life and encourage more residents and visitors to use public transport.

He also highlighted that RTA is committed to improving customer experience by leveraging digital technologies and smart solutions. According to him, adopting an integrated digital model enhances operational efficiency and increases customer satisfaction. The station also uses AI-powered cameras for crowd management and violation detection, improving safety and ensuring smoother operations.

The smart bus station covers around 147 square metres and can accommodate up to 20 customers at a time. It also includes a dedicated rest area for drivers, creating a balanced and efficient operational environment.

Meanwhile, the station offers a range of advanced digital systems. A primary real-time display provides maps of station facilities and shows arrival times across different transport modes. It is integrated with Dubai Metro to display train timings and with taxi services to show availability and locations.

Additionally, the display highlights nearby landmarks and routes, while also broadcasting awareness content. This enables passengers to plan their journeys more effectively and make informed mobility decisions.

The station also features a smart kiosk that offers digital customer services. These include a virtual assistant for journey planning, responses to enquiries, lost and found services, and direct access to the call centre. Consequently, response times are improved, and users receive immediate support.

Moreover, a dedicated display shows real-time bus arrival information along with occupancy levels of upcoming buses. This helps distribute passenger demand more efficiently and reduces congestion.

Passengers can also access modern ticketing options, including digital top-ups. A smart vending machine is available as well, allowing users to purchase beverages and benefit from loyalty programmes, further enhancing the station experience.

For operations and safety, the station is equipped with advanced AI-powered cameras. These systems enable accurate crowd monitoring and violation detection. At the same time, they provide real-time analytical data to support decision-making and improve management efficiency.

In terms of sustainability, the station has been developed according to international standards. It is equipped with solar panels to generate power and smart sensors to monitor air quality. This reflects RTA’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving resource efficiency.

The station serves multiple residential, commercial, and tourist areas. These include Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Ghubaiba, The Greens, Jumeirah Village Circle, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Science Park, and Dubai Studio City. It also connects to major attractions such as Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village.

As a result, the station acts as a key transport hub serving a wide range of users. Its direct integration with the metro further strengthens multimodal connectivity and improves transport efficiency.

Overall, the smart bus station represents a significant step in advancing Dubai’s public transport infrastructure, supporting smarter, more sustainable mobility across the emirate.
