Huawei Qatar successfully hosted the “Innovation in Education and Talent Excellence Awards,” an event honoring Qatar’s students for their achievements in the global Huawei ICT Competition. The event also showcased the latest advancements in educational technology.

Prominent figures from Qatar’s academic and government sectors attended. These included Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, Dr. Btool Hashim Al Sayed, Director of Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, deans, faculty members, and partners from Qatar University, UDST, Community College of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa University, and Lusail University.

Alex Dai, Executive Vice President of Huawei Gulf North, emphasized the importance of investing in human potential. He noted that Huawei aims to equip Qatar’s next generation with cutting-edge digital skills to drive innovation.

Dr. Btool Hashim Al Sayed highlighted that student accomplishments align with Qatar National Vision 2030, fostering collaboration between academia, government, and industry. She stressed the role of applied knowledge in driving sustainable development and economic diversification.

Dr. Rachid Benlamri, VP of Academics at UDST, said competitions like the Huawei ICT Competition provide students a global platform to demonstrate talents and showcase the benefits of industry-academia collaboration.

Huawei experts led sessions on emerging trends in education. Presentations highlighted Huawei’s education technologies and approaches to creating next-generation learning environments. Discussions focused on building technology-enabled learning ecosystems that enhance innovation and educational outcomes.

The ceremony recognized students from national and regional competitions. UDST’s team secured second place in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final in Shenzhen, China, competing against over 40 teams worldwide. Their project, “Be My Sense,” represented Qatar on the global stage.

The Huawei ICT Competition, now in its 10th edition, attracted more than 210,000 students from over 80 countries. The Global Final featured 179 teams from 48 countries competing in tracks such as Network, Cloud, Computing, and Innovation.

Prof. Mohamed Abdallah from Hamad Bin Khalifa University emphasized the importance of integrating industry-certified courses with foundational science to ensure graduates are career-ready. Academic leaders from Qatar University and Community College of Qatar noted that modernized curricula and applied learning modules are key to supporting the digital economy.

Additionally, Al Jazeera’s AI department shared insights from its recent AI Hackathon in collaboration with Huawei Cloud. The initiative demonstrated a practical model for innovation and talent development, preparing students for impactful careers.

The event underscored Huawei’s commitment to educational innovation and digital transformation in Qatar. Initiatives like Huawei ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future, and the Huawei ICT Competition aim to build a skilled Qatari workforce, equipping students with future-ready skills and contributing to a knowledge-based economy aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.
