The rapid expansion of e-commerce in the Sultanate of Oman is significantly transforming consumer behaviour around digital payments. Digital payments are increasingly shaping how consumers shop, transact, and engage with online platforms.

Electronic transactions through local payment gateways recorded strong growth between 2024 and 2025. Data highlighted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion shows that e-commerce activity has expanded at an exceptional pace.

Moreover, this growth reflects a rising reliance on digital platforms and cashless transactions across the country. Consumers are increasingly adopting online shopping solutions supported by improved digital infrastructure.

According to statistics from the Central Bank of Oman, the number of transactions increased from 67.5 million in 2024 to 168.8 million in 2025. This represents a rise of approximately 150 per cent.

In addition, the surge is being driven by wider availability of digital applications. It also reflects growing consumer trust in online purchasing and payment systems.

The Ministry noted that this trend signals stronger purchasing power in the market. It also highlights greater confidence in the speed and convenience of electronic payment methods.

Furthermore, the rise in electronic payments aligns with Oman’s broader digital transformation agenda. This agenda focuses on modernising commercial services and strengthening the digital economy.

It also aims to improve efficiency in financial transactions across the national market. As a result, businesses and consumers are increasingly shifting toward integrated digital ecosystems.
