Under the slogan “Safe Internet for Our Children,” the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood of the UAE, the Arab Council for Childhood and Development, and UNICEF Regional Office, announced the launch of the second campaign on protecting children on social media.

The announcement was made during the 29th session of the Arab Childhood Committee, chaired by the Republic of Djibouti via videoconference. National mechanisms concerned with childhood across Arab countries, along with civil society and international organisations, also participated.

Reem bint Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, reported that social media platforms are among the most influential tools shaping children’s values and behavior. She stressed the need to monitor content reaching children, safeguard them from extremist ideas, and prevent exploitation.

She revealed that preventing children from accessing the internet is no longer possible due to its role in education and daily life. Therefore, she emphasized the importance of guiding and regulating children’s internet use while strengthening their ability to resist harmful influences on physical, intellectual, and behavioral levels.

She warned that the internet and social media pose risks, including:
• Exposure to inappropriate content and online exploitation
• Cyberbullying, online fraud, and unsafe communication
• Excessive screen addiction and negative mental health impact

She praised the campaign’s innovative awareness materials, which aim to build children’s resilience in the digital sphere. She added that such initiatives enable safer technology use and protect young generations from exploitation while encouraging responsible use of modern technologies.

The campaign features a high-quality animated video series titled “Alpha and Zain,” produced in Arabic, English, and French. The five-episode series addresses responsible internet use, digital ethics in AI, cyberbullying prevention, managing screen time, and identifying misinformation online.

This initiative marks the second phase of the “Safe Internet for Our Children” campaign, following the first phase launched in 2021 under the title “Alpha Giga and Giga.” It aims to raise awareness among children and parents about safe internet and social media practices while promoting ways to report risks and violations.
