Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially joined the International Bus Benchmarking Group (IBBG). This makes it the first public bus operator in the Middle East to join this global alliance. The group connects leading bus operators and transport authorities worldwide.

This milestone is a step in RTA’s journey from a regional operator to a globally connected mobility authority. It reinforces Dubai’s position as a leader in smart and sustainable urban transport.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency at RTA, said the membership is an important regional achievement. “It confirms Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for smart and sustainable mobility solutions,” he said. “It sets a new regional benchmark in operational excellence, transparency, and international collaboration.”

Bahrozyan added that joining the IBBG reflects RTA’s commitment to aligning public transport with global standards. He said it will help deliver world-class services focused on safety, reliability, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. The move allows RTA to benchmark its performance against top operators worldwide. It also supports the adoption of international best practices to improve service quality.

The benchmarking methodology will provide global performance indicators and unified measurement standards. RTA will benefit from comparative analytics, technical workshops, knowledge-sharing platforms, and data-driven operational assessment tools.

This collaboration will enhance performance in key areas, including fleet efficiency, depot productivity, maintenance optimisation, on-time performance, network reliability, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, passenger satisfaction, cost management, and operational resilience.

The process will deliver insights for evidence-based decision-making and improve transparency. RTA continues to expand its smart mobility ecosystem through digital transformation, intelligent transport systems, and clean energy adoption in its bus fleet.

Integrating international benchmarking outcomes will help Dubai meet environmental targets, enhance passenger safety, strengthen network coverage, and improve operational cost efficiency. It also reinforces Dubai’s position as a global reference for public transport excellence.

Bahrozyan concluded that joining the IBBG strengthens RTA’s global presence. It highlights the Middle East in the international public transport community. This opens opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation with advanced bus systems worldwide. The move underscores Dubai RTA’s leadership in smart and sustainable public transport.
