The AI race is gaining momentum in the UAE, as H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi emphasised the need to invest in advanced technology and scientific innovation. He said this is key to building a competitive, knowledge-based digital economy.

He made these remarks during a session titled “The AI Race: From Optical Chips to Economic Power” at the Majlis Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi. He added that Fujairah’s leadership remains committed to supporting projects that strengthen the UAE’s global position in artificial intelligence.

Moreover, the session featured Hoda Alkhzaimi, Strategic Advisor in Economics and Investment at New York University Abu Dhabi, and Kanish Al Qubaisi, an Emirati researcher in advanced technology.

The discussion focused on the rapid growth of AI-linked semiconductor technology and optical computing. In addition, speakers highlighted how these technologies have moved from research labs to becoming key drivers of global industrial and economic power.

Furthermore, Dr Al Qubaisi presented his project involving an electro-optical chip. This chip uses laser light to speed up AI and machine learning processes while maintaining high energy efficiency.

At the same time, Professor Alkhzaimi noted that digital sovereignty depends on integrated strategies. She explained that this includes combining scientific innovation with strong infrastructure development.

The event also saw participation from officials, specialists, and youth. Notably, attendees included UAE astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansoori and Sulaiman Al Jassim, Chairman of the University of Fujairah.

Overall, the discussions reinforced the UAE’s commitment to innovation and global competitiveness in the AI race.
