Tesla (TSLA.O) plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas gigafactory around the middle of next year. CEO Elon Musk shared the update in a post on X on Friday.

The move will make room for increased production of the Cybercab. Musk made the announcement as the company shifts its manufacturing focus.

However, Musk did not specify what comes next for the truck. He did not say whether Cybertruck production would move to another facility or be discontinued altogether.

Musk has touted the Cybertruck as a futuristic rival to pickup trucks from legacy automakers such as Ford. Even so, the vehicle has struggled to sustain interest since its 2023 launch.

The Cybertruck has also faced multiple recalls and quality control issues. Meanwhile, Tesla has repeatedly revised its prices.

The Cybercab, on the other hand, is central to Musk’s robotaxi ambitions. Over time, Tesla intends to make it the main driverless vehicle model in its larger robotaxi network.

For now, details on Cybertruck production beyond the Texas gigafactory remain unclear.
