Positive Technologies has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with Mideast Communication Systems (MCS), a leading IT and cybersecurity provider based in Cairo. This partnership will focus on leveraging cybersecurity expertise to jointly promote advanced cybersecurity products and services across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the broader Africa region, aiming to deliver result-driven cybersecurity solutions.
Cyberattacks are escalating globally, with incidents in the Middle East tripling in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. In Africa, over 70% of cyberattacks last year targeted critical sectors such as public services, finance, industry, and telecommunications. Research into the dark web marketplace reveals that access to networks of large domestic companies is available for an average of $2,970.
According to the International Telecommunication Union’s 2023–2024 report, Egypt is one of only 12 nations globally to receive the highest rating in the Global Cybersecurity Index. However, Positive Technologies ranks Egypt second in Africa for cyberattacks (13%), following South Africa at 22%.
Tarek Shabaka, CEO of MCS, emphasized, “MCS has been a key player in cybersecurity for 18 years. Our strategic focus is on deploying cutting-edge solutions to support Egypt’s digital transformation and expanding our presence in Africa. The partnership with Positive Technologies, a pioneer in advanced cybersecurity solutions, will help enhance cyber resilience across organizations in the region.”
Ilya Leonov, Regional Director for MENA at Positive Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the company’s partner network in Africa. “MCS brings extensive experience with public sector and financial institutions, which are primary targets in more than half of Africa’s cyberattacks. Our collaboration will extend beyond Egypt to other Middle Eastern and African countries, with a focus on industrial safety, DevSecOps, red team services, and ATM security assessments.”
Founded in 2006, MCS has established a significant presence across East and Central Africa, with offices in Cairo and Nairobi, and operations in 10 countries. MCS also hosts the FDC Summit, one of Egypt’s largest IT exhibitions, under the patronage of the Egyptian government and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
This partnership is set to play a crucial role in strengthening cybersecurity resilience and protecting key industries across the region.
