Anthropic has announced a new tool that can detect AI-generated novels, marking a major step for transparency in publishing. The company revealed that it will embed an invisible watermark into text produced by its Claude models. This watermark helps identify content created by artificial intelligence.

According to Anthropic, the watermark does not change the meaning or readability of the text. Moreover, it remains intact even when the content is copied and pasted elsewhere. As a result, the technology offers a reliable way to trace the origin of written material.

The company confirmed that this feature will apply to Claude-generated content worldwide. This includes text generated through cloud service providers. In addition, Anthropic plans to release third-party verification tools so that outside organizations can independently confirm whether content was AI-generated.

Furthermore, all Claude models released this month or later will support the watermarking feature by default. Meanwhile, Anthropic is working to extend this capability to its older models as well.

This move is part of the company’s broader effort to improve transparency under the European Union AI Act. Consequently, it reflects growing regulatory pressure on AI companies to make their systems more accountable.
