AMD Unveils Next-Gen AI and High-Performance Processors at Computex 2024

At the Computex 2024 keynote, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) announced a series of groundbreaking advancements in CPU, NPU, and GPU architectures, reinforcing its leadership in AI infrastructure from data centers to PCs. Key highlights include the expanded AMD Instinct™ accelerator roadmap, the upcoming AMD Instinct MI325X accelerator, the 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ server processors, and the new AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series and Ryzen 9000 Series processors.

 AMD Instinct MI325X and EPYC Processors

AMD revealed the AMD Instinct MI325X accelerator, featuring industry-leading memory capacity, available in Q4 2024. This aligns with AMD’s annual release schedule for AI accelerators. Additionally, AMD previewed the 5th Gen EPYC™ processors, codenamed “Turin,” set for a 2H 2024 release, promising superior performance and efficiency.

 Ryzen AI 300 Series and Ryzen 9000 Series Processors

AMD launched the third generation of AI-enabled mobile processors, the AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series, along with the AMD Ryzen 9000 Series for desktops. These processors leverage the new “Zen 5” CPU core and AMD XDNA™ 2 NPU core architecture, offering 50 TOPs of AI processing performance and enhanced power efficiency.

 Strategic Partnerships and Innovations

Dr. Lisa Su, AMD Chair and CEO, emphasized the strategic partnerships with industry giants like Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and Asus. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the importance of AMD’s AI technology in transforming computing experiences, particularly with new Ryzen AI-powered Copilot+ PCs.

 Expanded Accelerator Roadmap

AMD’s accelerator roadmap includes the AMD Instinct MI325X with 288GB of ultra-fast HBM3E memory, enhancing generative AI performance. Future developments include the AMD Instinct MI350 Series, powered by the next-gen CDNA™ 4 architecture in 2025, and the CDNA “Next” architecture driving the MI400 Series in 2026.

 Cutting-Edge PC Experiences

Executives from Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and Asus joined Dr. Su to showcase new PC experiences. AMD’s next-gen “Zen 5” CPUs, combined with XDNA 2 NPUs and RDNA™ 3.5 graphics, enable advanced AI features in laptops. Microsoft, HP, and Lenovo unveiled new AI-powered laptops, while Asus introduced a comprehensive portfolio of AI PCs for various users.

 Advanced Edge AI Solutions

AMD also introduced the AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2, a single-chip solution for edge AI applications, featuring FPGA logic, next-gen AI Engines, and embedded CPUs. Key partnerships include collaborations with Illumina, Subaru, Canon, and Hitachi Energy, showcasing AMD’s impact across various industries.
