You’ve been a part of the tech industry for quite some time. Can you share your insights on how the market trends, especially in the ICT ecosystem, have evolved over the past 4-5 years in the Middle East, particularly in the UAE?

Certainly. Over the last five years, we’ve witnessed significant changes in the ICT industry, although it’s worth noting that this is a relatively short timeframe considering the industry’s three-decade history. Three key factors stand out during this period: increased consideration, maturation, and stabilization. The industry has seen more attention, a maturing of technologies, and greater stability.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant disruptions. Do you believe that, despite the challenges, stability has returned to the ICT ecosystem?

The pandemic had a unique impact on the ICT sector. It was, in many ways, a boon for IT professionals, as the demand for IT services and products surged due to remote work and increased mobility. Investments in IT infrastructure were made during the pandemic. However, post-COVID, we observed a return to pre-pandemic levels. What’s crucial in this dynamic industry is staying ahead of market changes. Those who adapt quickly can thrive, while those who lag behind risk getting left behind.

When it comes to ASBIS, where do you see the company positioned within the distribution sector of the ICT ecosystem?

ASBIS has been a stalwart in the IT distribution industry for over 30 years, with a strong presence in the UAE for 22 of those years. We’ve consistently ranked among the top three distributors in the region. Our strength lies in our ability to adapt. We are a multinational company, but we localize ourselves in each market we serve. We move with the market and often ahead of it.

Are there any specific technology segments that ASBIS is looking to focus on in the coming years?

ASBIS follows the motto “success through focus.” We establish vertical groups within our company to pursue specific businesses. Recently, we ventured into audio with premium brands like LOEWE and Bang & Olufsen. We’re also investing in robotics, with expectations of strong results in the near future. Additionally, we are focusing on “Green IT,” including solar energy and extending the life of older products, aligning with global green initiatives.

Speaking of partnerships, are there any new collaborations or partnerships on the horizon for ASBIS?

We’re always open to strategic partnerships that provide mutual value. We’ve recently formed partnerships with Dahua and Lexar, among others. We prioritize partnerships with key players in each market, and this approach has been a cornerstone of our success.

ASBIS recently participated in Gitex Africa. Can you share your experiences and the opportunities you see for the company in Africa?

ASBIS is actively expanding its presence in Africa. We’ve already opened a significant subsidiary and bonded warehouses in South Africa this year, with plans for further expansion. We have local teams in various African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Uganda. Our focus is to grow in Africa, and this is a key direction for us.

Finally, what can we expect from ASBIS during Gitex Global 2023?

During Gitex Global 2023, we’re preparing to host our partners in our hospitality suites, offering opportunities for discussions and showcasing the latest technologies. We aim to provide a glimpse of some of the most cutting-edge tech innovations. It’s going to be an exciting event, and we look forward to it.
