Under the esteemed patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the International Defence Conference 2025 opened today in Abu Dhabi with the theme “Defence Reimagined: Innovation, Integration, and Resilience.” The global event brings together defence and security leaders, experts, and industry players to discuss key challenges and emerging opportunities in the sector. It reaffirms the UAE’s leadership in fostering international collaboration, innovation, and resilience in the defence industry.
The conference was inaugurated by Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Fadel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, who highlighted the UAE’s commitment to advancing defence technologies and strengthening global partnerships. Since its launch in 1993, IDEX has become a cornerstone of the global defence sector, playing a pivotal role in positioning the UAE as a hub for military innovation. He also emphasized that NAVDEX showcases the country’s dedication to sustainable security solutions and cutting-edge advancements. With 366 international delegations in attendance, the conference underscores growing global confidence in the UAE as a key player in defence cooperation. Discussions cover cybersecurity, space security, and defence preparedness, focusing on solutions that enhance global resilience.
Key attendees at the opening ceremony included Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for IDEX and NAVDEX 2025, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sultan Rashid Ali Al Shamsi, Advisor at the Presidential Court, Dr. Nasser Hamid Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of Tawazun Council, James Morse, President of Rabdan Academy, Major General Dr. Mubarak Saeed Ghafan Al Jabri, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee, and Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group. The event also welcomed 55 heads of military delegations, 40 CEOs from leading defence companies, 48 ambassadors, 65 military attachés, and representatives from international universities and military academies.
Organized by ADNEC Group in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Defence and Tawazun Council, the International Defence Conference 2025 features high-profile discussions on critical global security challenges. The panel “Global Disruptions and Defence Preparedness: Mitigating Threats to Critical Supply Chains” featured Dr. Nasser Hamid Al Nuaimi, who highlighted vulnerabilities in global supply chains and the impact of geopolitical tensions on defence logistics. Discussions explored innovative solutions for supply chain resilience, including local production, regional partnerships, and technological advancements. The panel “Disinformation and Influence Operations: The Weaponisation of Information in Modern Conflicts” featured Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of UAE Cybersecurity, who addressed the rising threats of cyber warfare, misinformation, and AI-driven deepfakes. He emphasized the importance of robust cybersecurity strategies and AI-driven innovations in countering digital threats. The final session, “The Sky is No Longer the Limit: Emerging Threats and Opportunities in Space”, featured Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, who discussed the expanding role of space technology in defence, satellite-based security, and future economic opportunities in asteroid mining, off-planet manufacturing, and space exploration.
With over 1,800 industry experts and specialists participating, the International Defence Conference 2025 introduced a hybrid participation model, allowing virtual attendees worldwide to engage in discussions. This approach enhances global accessibility and strengthens international cooperation in defence strategy and innovation. Running alongside IDEX and NAVDEX 2025 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, the conference reaffirms the UAE’s leadership in shaping the future of global defence and security.
