dnata, a global air and travel services provider, announced the launch of a new centralised screening control room at Dubai International Airport (DXB). The facility was developed in partnership with Dubai Police. It marks a major step in the digital transformation of air cargo operations.

The new control room enables Dubai Police officers to remotely operate and monitor six X-ray screening machines. These machines are located across dnata’s cargo warehouse at DXB. All systems are connected to One Cargo, dnata’s digital cargo management platform.

As a result, the setup allows real-time data sharing. It also streamlines workflows and supports faster operational decisions. The system combines automation with enhanced security oversight.

dnata Chief Cargo Officer Guillaume Crozier said the project reflects the company’s push towards smarter cargo handling. He added that the collaboration strengthens security while improving efficiency. It also aligns with Dubai’s focus on innovation.

Previously, air cargo screening was carried out at multiple warehouse locations. This approach required more resources and reduced efficiency. However, the new centralised model consolidates all screening into a single hub.

According to dnata, the system is expected to reduce screening time. It will also improve cargo throughput by around 3 per cent annually.

dnata serves more than 120 airline customers at DXB. The company handles an average of 60,000 tonnes of air cargo per month at the facility. Earlier this year, dnata reported processing over 1 million tonnes of cargo between April 2024 and March 2025. This was the highest volume ever handled across its DXB and DWC operations. The figure represents year-on-year growth of around 30 per cent.

The growth reflects wider trends in Dubai’s logistics sector. The rise of e-commerce, population growth, and Dubai’s position as a global transit hub continue to drive air cargo volumes.

The new system also reduces manual handling. It enables advanced analytics and helps optimise resource use. This lowers unnecessary cargo movement and fuel consumption within the facility.

Key features of the new air cargo screening system include:

  • Remote operation of X-ray machines from a single command centre
  • Live imaging and automated reporting for full traceability
  • Integration with dnata’s One Cargo digital platform

The control room was jointly designed by dnata and Dubai Police. It supports both primary and secondary command functions. It is equipped with advanced monitoring interfaces and automated tools to ensure secure and efficient cargo screening.

Crozier said Dubai’s success as a global logistics hub depends on public-private collaboration. He noted that the project demonstrates how technology and trust can strengthen the air cargo ecosystem.

The control room is part of dnata’s wider innovation strategy. Across its Dubai facilities, the company is exploring autonomous mobile robots to move shipments safely. This aims to reduce forklift use and improve space utilisation.

In parallel, dnata is testing automated dimensioning and load-optimisation technologies. These tools use sensors and algorithms to capture shipment size and weight. This helps maximise space in Unit Load Devices and supports more precise cargo planning.

Crozier added that employees remain central to dnata’s digital transformation. He said teams are using new technologies to move air cargo more securely and efficiently.
