Dubai has completed its first Air Taxi station, marking a major step in advancing urban mobility and innovation.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the milestone reflects Dubai’s vision to lead future transport solutions. He noted that the project aligns with the goals of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global hub for innovation.

Moreover, he highlighted that the launch coincides with the first World Public Transport Day on April 17. He said Dubai continues to strengthen its role as a global model for integrated and sustainable mobility. The emirate is focusing on seamless transport integration to enhance quality of life and efficiency.

In addition, Sheikh Hamdan stated that Dubai is committed to building a multi-level transport ecosystem powered by advanced technologies. He added that expanding mobility options remains key to serving residents and visitors.

The Air Taxi station is located near Dubai International Airport. It is the first purpose-built facility of its kind globally. The station will act as the main hub for Air Taxi operations in the city.

Furthermore, the project is being delivered by Skyports Infrastructure. Joby Aviation is responsible for the electric aircraft and operations. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority oversees governance and integration with the wider network.

The facility includes a four-storey building spanning 3,100 square metres. It also features a two-level car park and two take-off and landing pads. In addition, it has dedicated charging infrastructure and climate-controlled passenger areas. The station can handle up to 170,000 passengers annually.

Meanwhile, the infrastructure meets high international safety standards. Authorities aim to ensure smooth integration with metro, buses, and shared mobility services.

Mattar Al Tayer said the station marks an important step toward launching commercial Air Taxi services. He added that the project reflects Dubai’s readiness to adopt future mobility technologies.

He also noted that the Air Taxi will provide fast and safe travel across key destinations. For example, trips from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah are expected to take around 10 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car.

In addition, the service will support multimodal transport. It will connect with public transport and individual mobility options such as electric scooters and bicycles.

Anthony El-Khoury of Joby Aviation said the milestone brings the company closer to launching operations. He added that the service will offer quiet and sustainable air travel.

Duncan Walker of Skyports Infrastructure described the station as a major step in aviation innovation. He said it represents years of planning and advanced design.

The Joby Air Taxi is a fully electric aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capability. It produces zero operational emissions and is significantly quieter than helicopters.

Previously, Joby completed the UAE’s first piloted Air Taxi flight. The 17-minute journey connected Margham to Al Maktoum International Airport. The company also conducted multiple test flights in high-temperature conditions.

To support operations, Joby is following a dual certification strategy in the UAE. It is working with local regulators while leveraging FAA-validated data.

RTA has also announced plans for additional stations in Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina. By 2026, four stations will form the initial network.

Under an agreement with RTA, Joby holds exclusive rights to operate services in Dubai for six years. The company is also building a local workforce to support operations.

Overall, the project reinforces Dubai’s ambition to lead global mobility innovation. It also supports the launch of a smart and sustainable Air Taxi network.
